We don't approach every concrete floor exactly the same.

Before coating anything, we look at the condition of the existing concrete. Cracks, previous coatings, stains and other surface issues can affect what needs to happen next.

This part isn't very exciting to photograph, but it's one of the most important parts of the job.

A beautiful topcoat won't make up for poor preparation underneath it.

Then Comes the Fun Part: Choosing the Look

This is where an epoxy project starts to feel custom.

You're not limited to one standard gray garage floor. The base color and decorative chips work together to create the overall look.

Some homeowners want something light and clean. Others prefer charcoal and darker tones. Tan and earth-tone combinations can work especially well with the colors found in many Arizona homes.

Then you choose the chip blend.

What Are Those Chips Actually For?

The small colored pieces you see throughout many epoxy floors are decorative vinyl chips.

They're broadcast across the coating while it's being installed, creating the speckled, multi-tone appearance people associate with professionally coated garage floors.

They're also what keeps the floor from looking like someone simply painted the concrete.

Depending on the blend, you can create a completely different feel:

Light & CleanWhite, gray and lighter neutral combinations can brighten a garage and give it a crisp appearance.

Classic GrayGray, charcoal, black and white blends create the familiar finished-garage look that works with almost anything.

Warm SouthwestTan, beige and earth-tone chips pair well with warmer Arizona color palettes.

Bold & DarkDarker chip combinations can give garages, workshops and commercial spaces a stronger, more dramatic appearance.

There isn't one “correct” combination. It's about choosing something that fits the space and your taste.

A Little Chip or a Lot?

Chip coverage makes a surprisingly big difference.

With a lighter broadcast, you'll see more of the base color underneath. Increase the amount of chip and the floor takes on a much more textured, blended appearance.

A heavier broadcast can make the decorative chips the dominant feature of the floor rather than simply an accent.

That's why we like customers to choose their colors before materials are ordered. You should know what kind of finished look you're going for before installation begins.

What Happens on Installation Day?

Once the design is decided, the real work begins.

The concrete is prepared and any necessary minor repairs are addressed. The selected base coat is then applied, followed by the decorative chip broadcast.

After that layer has cured, loose excess chips are removed and the surface is prepared for its final coating.

The clear protective topcoat is what brings everything together.

Once finished, what was previously unfinished concrete becomes a completed part of the space.
